The 64th Cannes International Film Festival kicked off Wednesday night with a grand opening ceremony.
One of the world's oldest and largest film festivals, Cannes will continue for eleven days featuring 49 films selected from 33 countries, with seven hailing from Korea.
Director Hong Sang-soo's "The Day He Arrives", Kim Ki-duk's "ARIRANG - Movie", and Na Hong-jin's "The Yellow Sea" will be screened in the festival's second-most prestigious "Un Certain Regard" category.
And the Cinefondation section, which highlights 16 movies out of more than a thousand sent from film schools worldwide, will feature Son Tae-gyum's "YA-GAN-BI-HANG" or "Fly by Night".
"Ghost", a film by a Korean 24-year-old female rookie director, will also hit the big screen to compete in the Short Films section.
Two more films were invited to compete for the festival's Critics' Week award, while acclaimed Korean directors will be part of the festival's juries.
Bong Joon-ho will chair the Camera d'Or jury for the best first feature, while Lee Chang-dong will head the Critics' Week jury with Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski.
So, it seems this year's film festival will be a good opportunity to bring Korean films and culture to ardent movie-goers through the big screens on the French Riviera.
