Shin Jung-hwan's Latest Trial For Alleged Habitual Overseas Gambling

Broadcaster Shin Jung-hwan was finally given his sentence after being charged with habitual gambling overseas. The Seoul Central District Court released information on the trial for the first time on the morning of May 18th.

Sin appeared at the court for his trial looking haggard and on crutches due to his ongoing rehabilitation on his ankle. He told the reporters, "I'm sorry", as he made his way in. Sins lawyer pleaded for lenient sentencing as the TV personality was not only remorseful for his actions, but not 100% well physically. Sin added that he was sorry for the trouble he caused as a public figure. He continued to express his regret over his wrongdoings and said that he'd live his life serving the community.

The entire trial went on for about 20 minutes with the prosecution side demanding for a sentence of one year in prison. The final trial determining Sin's outcome will be held June 3rd at 10 AM at the same location.

Sin has been booked without detention ever since April 26th of 2010 for gambling in the Philippines. He gambled 2.5 million of his own money plus 8 million won of borrowed money at the Waterfront Hotel Casino in Cebu, Philippines, playing baccarat. This follows a history of gambling in previous years abroad.
