Chungeoram Film, the production company behind Korea's all-time box office champion "The Host", has secured a deal with Singapore's Boku Films that will inject US $5 million into its sequel, "Host 2". The deal follows on a similar injection of foreign capital when Focus Features boarded Park Chan-wook's "Thirst" earlier this year.
Boku Films and its head, producer-director Kelvin Tong, produced the successful horror The Maid, and other films. The company will get half its funding through Singapore's state-run media body, The Media Development Authority.
The original movie was directed by Bong Joon-ho and drew over 13 million admissions at the domestic box office in 2006. A director for the sequel has not been announced, although the script was penned by popular comic-book writer Kang Pool. The new tale is to be set in the Cheonggyechong, a restored stream running through central Seoul.
