Smoking will be banned at all restaurants in Korea starting in 2015.
The health ministry announced on Wednesday plans to submit a revised bill that will designate restaurants larger than 150 square-meters as smoke free areas starting this December.
The ordinance will be expanded to restaurants over 100 square-meters in two years and to all restaurants nationwide in 2015.
A health ministry offical said the move was made as part of efforts to reduce the nation's smoking rate, which has remained unchanged in recent years.
The official added that Seoul's hosting of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control this November also played a role.
