Soaring Napa Cabbage Prices Hinder Kimchi-making Season

Around this time every year, Koreans stock up on enough of their homemade kimchi to get them through the cold winter months.
However, soaring napa cabbage prices are making that a bit more difficult this year.
The government last month had advised Koreans to put off making their kimchi until they had secured enough cabbage to stabilize prices.
But due to inclement weather, the cabbage supply has actually gone down.
According to the latest numbers released on Saturday, cabbage prices were nearly 2-and-a-half times more expensive compared to the same period last year.
Industry experts doubt that prices will drop anytime soon because of the continued cold snaps in the forecast.
