South American animations on "Kids' Kingdom"

From the crazy polar bear "Backkom" to clay dolls who "Travel to Mars", works by Korean and Brazilian animation directors will be presented to Korean children this year as Christmas gifts.

Co-hosted by Animpact Association Office and Korea Cinematheque Association, "Seoul Art Cinema Animpact Directors" will showcase works by Korean director Im, Aron and by Brazilian director Juan Pablo Zaramella for two days (December 15-16). The event will introduce the young animation directors from both countries, and their recent works, to the Korean public. The theme of the event is "Kids' Kingdom". Having previously focused on the artistic insights of directors, this month's screening will target the children and youth.

Director Im, Aron will present the so-called "Bakkom Gift Set", which will include not only a theatrical version of Bakkom, which is popular in Korea and abroad, but also major TV animation episodes, followed by the director's recent work, Makera, the story of a dinosaur whose life and actions are driven by its keen desire to uphold justice. Makera's swift movements and martial art techniques, which it uses to save a girl who has been kidnapped by an evil man, exemplify Im's character animation. Also included in the program are sheep in the island, a fateful duel between "Dolly", an unfortunate sheep who gets hooked on the taste of meat, and "Buri", a vegetarian duck dinosaur; Angel; and Click.

Although he is not well known in Korea, director Juan Pablo Jaramela is internationally famous for his clay animation. Travel to Mars, the adventure of a boy who wishes to travel to Mars, and Sexteen, featuring candid sexual experiences of women, among others, will be showcased in the event. His clay animation is known for its exceptional color, the texture of clay, and the delicate movements of its characters. Also to be screened are Glove, which received a special award at the Hiroshima International Animation Festival, A Challenge to Death, a story about the fear and avoidance of death, and Black Comedy, a satire of modern people who despise darkness, based on the story of a cute nun.

The first day of the event will open with an opportunity to meet Director Im. Director Juan Pablo Jaramela, on the other hand, will meet the audience via a video workshop, a unique program of Seoul Art Cinema's Animpact Directors' Screening.

Seoul Art Cinema's Animpact Directors' Screening is another monthly animation festival hosted by Animpact, the world's first monthly animation festival, and Seoul Art Cinema. Every month, the event showcases major Korean and foreign animation directors' works. Last October, the event, based on the theme "Esac3kang", focused on the work of Daniel Greaves of the U.K., Simone Massi of Italy, and Kim, Jun-Ki of Korea.
