Although Sejong (Han Seok-Kyu) succeeded in proclaiming the Hangeul, everyone he loved came to a tragic end.
On the final episode of SBS "Deep-rooted Tree", Milbon Jeong Gi-joon's (Yoon Je-moon) plan to create a mass assassination failed. Sejong issued the Hunminjeongeum in the most surprising way.
However, Sejong had to lose the ones he loved in return for presenting the people with the Hangeul. Soy (Sin Se-kyeong), Chae-yoon (Jang Hyeok) and bodyguard Moo-hyool (Jo Jin-woong) who were always by his side, sacrificed their lives for the Hangeul.
Soy was killed by the poison arrow shot by an enemy. However, her death wasn't in vain. She knew she was going to die so she tore her clothes into little pieces and completed the Haerae (the meanings of all the words in the Hangeul).
Chae-yoon stopped Gaepai who tried to assassinate Sejong on the day of the Hangeul release and faced death himself after seeing in succeed. Chae-yoon and Soy couldn't get married and have children like they planned to but Soy's dream of the Hangeul came true.
It wasn't only Sejong's people who faced death. Jeong Ki-joon also died in front of Sejong after his men attacked him. His bodyguard Yoon-pyeong (Lee Soo-hyeok) and Gaepai also died while trying to protect him.
Sejong succeeded in spreading the Hangeul but couldn't help but be dejected. He couldn't be sure about what Jeong Ki-joon said about not loving the people. Sejong had kept his love for the people until the end although he looked lonely, the lingering imagery was all that was left.
