Two young South Korean entertainers got their charity acts together recently to help North Korea.
Actress Moon Geun-yeong, 17, (top) will visit North Korea next month to deliver 50,000 briquets and 200 briquet stoves. She is a spokeswoman for a Web site that ran a campaign encouraging South Koreans to help their northern neighbors. The company donated one won (about a tenth of a cent) each time a netizen used the site's Web-based e-mail service.
Singer and actress Jang Nara, 23, filmed a television commercial with Seoul Milk last month. But instead of accepting her usual appearance fee, she requested that the equivalent in dry milk ― about 200 million won's ($170,000) worth ― be sent to children in North Korea.
"Because I am a celebrity, I earn more than the average girl my age", Ms. Jang said. "I think it is fair that I share".
