A Fan of Horror

If you love horror, this is one to watch.

A lot of people expect horror to be full of jump scares with a generic story with a perfect hero/heroes. However, horror like "The Piper" is hard to come by in today's era of horror movie making. As a person who grew up with games like "Silent Hill" and films like "Ringu," the story of a horror film must have a story that makes you feel unsafe, scared, and helpless. Aside from the story, the film has to build some sort of bond with the viewer so that they can trust the main protagonist in making them feel nourished so that even though the events are stressful they can completely rely on them. Finally, the film must have a hero who is not perfect. This allows the audience to truly suffer the true horror of the film. To conclude, this film hits every single point that a true horror fan is looking for. Emotional and physical fear. The type of fear that triggers anxiety and helplessness is the fear that you should feel from a horror film. A word of advice, if you find yourself smiling or enjoying a horror film while its playing, you probably aren't watching a real horror film by my standards.

This movie is ultra bizarre. About 3/4 of the film is delightful, happy, heartwarming and then WHAM. I don’t even know how to classify The Piper except to suggest it’s a revenge film??? Certainly not your typical revenge film 😬

The feel-good moments are heartfelt, heartwarming even joyous as a Christ-like savior enters a small village and saves it from a horrific plague of rats. The man and his 10 year old son literally transform the entire village into a happy home. The man builds swings for the kiddos, makes improvements and really cares for these people. However, the Chief turns the village against the man and his child with horrific results. And horrific consequences.

This is NOT a film children should watch. It has gruesome violence and disturbing images. I gave it 5 stars because The Piper is a great story, well acted and has a shock value you don’t often see — and I’ve watched some pretty disturbing movies.

I don’t recommend this movie to sensitive people or people prone to nightmares. Watch at your own risk.

This movie is quite remarkable. It is one of the best dramatic portrayals of a classic story I've seen. It is emotionally provoking as we follow a father's journey from protecting his son down into the dark hole of vengeance. This isn't your standard horror flick. It is thought provoking and dramatic. The acting is so well done that I couldn't help but feel moved by the main character 's plight. The director did a very good job of spinning things up then leaving me sitting here in disbelief with my jaw dropped at the horrific ending. Bravo!

Beautifully written and acted. This was so much more than a horror movie. A glimpse into the aftermath of the Korean War with touches of the supernatural and horror mixed in. You feel deeply for these characters and I found myself bawling like a baby a few times. If your expecting something with a happy ending and everything tied up with a neat little bow, maybe pass on this one. If your looking for an excellent movie that will send you on an emotion roller coaster then by all means, climb aboard.

Reading about this movie before I bought it must have given me unrealistsic expectations. I'm not sure. It was a mess and it was very annoying. I didn't like the characters, any of them, including the "good guy", except maybe the young woman he befriends. Everyone else in the town was obviously up to no good, and the fact that the protagonist couldn't see that made me dislike him. The movie was way too long. It keeps you waiting for something to happen, and not in a good way. It wasn't suspenseful. It just dragged.
