To his latest work, Lee brings that same compelling mix of heartwarming romance and heartbreaking tragedy with distinctive aesthetics and a lingering atmosphere. Hyun Bin, departing from his roguishly boyish image, adopts a more rugged look to portray a lonely, troubled boxer. Opposite Hyun Bin is former FinK.L. member Sung Yu Ri (A Prince's First Love, One Fine Day) who has slowly come unto her own as an actress.

Both uncommonly gifted in math, high school prodigies Tae Woong (Hyun Bin) and Jung Kyu (Lee Sun Ho) initially don't get along, but they soon become best friends. Together they experience the growing pains of adolescence, sharing their dreams and anxieties. When Jung Kyu's life is tragically cut short after Tae Woong wins over him in a math competition, life as Tae Woong knows it also ends. Eight years later, Tae Woong, now going by the name Deuk Gu, is a third-rate boxer struggling to make ends meet. Unable to get over Jung Kyu's death, he continues to punish himself for the past by living in despondency, desperately trying to fulfill his friend's dream. But then he meets Bo Ra (Sung Yu Ri), a wealthy and petulant young woman with a heart as cold as his.

    어떤이들은 투덜댈지도 모르겠다. 요즘처럼 먹고 살기 바쁜 세상에 웬 동화같은 사랑이야기냐고... 그럼에도 불구하고 우리는, 얼어붙은 사람들의 마음을 녹여줄 수 있는것은 동화같은 순수한 사랑이라고 생각한다. 안데르센 동화 "눈의 여왕"에서 얼어붙었던 카이의 마음을 녹였던 것은 게르다의 순수한 사랑이었다. 얼음공주 보라의 마음을 녹인 것 역시 태웅의 사랑이다. 이들의 아름답고 동화같은 사랑을 통해 꽁꽁 얼어붙은 시청자들의 마음을 녹여주고 싶다. 그래서 겨울이 계절의 끝이 아님을, 더 큰 사랑과 희망의 시작일 수도 있음을 말해주고 싶다.

    어른이 되어 예전에 읽은 동화책을 무심코 펴보게 되면, 우리는 어린시절 읽었던 감동과는 다른 삶의 불변의 진리와 감동을 느끼게 된다. 그러면서 아직도 인생에는 우리가 모르는 비밀들이 많고 배워야할 것들이 많다는 것을 깨닫게 된다. 즉, 사람들은 어른이 되어서도 계속 성장한다는 것이다. 우리의 주인공 태웅과 보라도 어린시절의 상처로 인해서 세상과 담을 쌓고 마치 성장을 멈춘 아이처럼 살아가고 있었다. 하지만 두사람이 만나 사랑하게 되면서 세상을 배우고 인생의 아름다움을 배우며 성장하게 된다. 아이가 자라는 모습을 보면서 부모가 말할 수 없는 행복함을 느끼듯 이렇게 성장해가는 두 사람을 보면서 많은 사람들이 행복했으면 좋겠다.

    1998년 한국 과학고등학교 입학식.
    어머니가 고이 싸준 도시락을 들고 입학식장에 들어서던 태웅은 학생들의 주목을 받으며 신입생선서를 하고 있는 정규를 본다. 첫 수학시간부터 대립하기 시작한 정규와 태웅. 정규는 평범한 듯 보이면서도 언뜻 천재성이 돋보이는 태웅이 거슬리기 시작한다. 그러던 어느 날, 정규는 태웅이 낸 리포트와 똑같은 내용이 실린 수학학회지를 발견하고... 아무것도 모른 채 도서관에서 책을 찾고 있던 태웅은 도서관에서 소리높여 이야기하는 한 여자아이를 본다.‘눈의 여왕’동화책을 팔라고 도서관 사서에게 당당하게 이야기하는 아이, 바로 보라다. 돌아가는 길 태웅은 아이들에게 괴롭힘을 당하는 보라를 도와주게 되고. 삐삐를 건네주고 사라지는 보라. 다음 날, 수업시간 태웅은 리포터를 도작했다는 이야기에 상처를 받은 태웅은 학교를 뛰쳐나가고..

    Beautiful and Elegant Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
    Maybe because I am a clothing horse and I don't mind sappiness, this drama really touched me. It was quiet and elegant and dignified.

    The plot points were revealed without being too hokey or unbelievable. The drama is great.

    Is there melodrama ... of course. Could the ending of had more impact, yes. But well worth the money.

    Not my favorite k-drama (sam soon and coffee prince win that title) but definetly one of my favorite serious romance dramas.

    To the critics of this show, I beg to differ. This is a great show. I think Sung Yuri's acting has improved although there is still room for improvement. Hyun Bin does a good job by portraying the sadness and loneliness of the character through his eyes. The show actually depicts love in various forms - parents, friends, siblings , lovers. The best part is the beautiful message that it delivers - it's better to live on no matter what happens and memory remains even when a person is long gone. The writers and producer should be commended for the great plot, cinematography and score. It is definitely better than other melo-dramas eg. Winter Sonata which I think is over-rated.

    I see that not too many reviewers had good things to say about this drama.

    I found it to be very beautiful. I thought both Hyun Bin & Song Yu Ri did very well in their roles.

    Hyun Bin must have really worked out for this role since he convinced so many people on the internet as having the best body beating out Kwan Sang Woo!

    Watch Song Yu Ri in Hong Gil Dong & you will see that she is able to play other types of roles other than looking pretty.

    Love the OSTs also. There are 2 different CDs for the drama.

    Not a very well-written story. Weak characters for both male and female leads. No chemistry between them. The show just failed to draw me in like the other K-dramas.

    extremely disappointing Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
    I like Hyun Bin. That was why I bought this drama. Unfortunately he doesn't look good with his moustache and his acting is poor. I do wish Korean men would stop wearing the out of fashion Beatles hairstyle. The only good acting comes from the lady who played Hyun Bin's mother. The whole story is just rubbish and everything could have ended in the penultimate epistle but no, it drags on boring you to death for one last epistle with nothing at all worth seeing. So unless you are crazy over Hyun Bin, and don't mind him with a moustache throughout, then give this a miss. The girl (and the one playing her junior too) is a real pain.
