The Sweet Sex and Love marked the feature film debut of director Bong Man Dae, who would later go on to direct horror flick Cinderella in 2006. As can be gathered from the title, this film is about sex and love, a genre that Bong can claim authority on given his background in softcore pornography. Prior to The Sweet Sex and Love, Bong mainly directed straight-to-video adult titles, but even in the arena of erotica, his directing talent and ability to bring out emotions set him apart, earning him something of a cult following. Crossing into feature film territory in 2003 with The Sweet Sex and Love, the maverick director delivered one of the raciest mainstream Korean releases ever. The sexually explicit scenes and frank portrayal of modern relationships shocked many viewers at the time. The Sweet Sex and Love taps into the lifestyle and mindset of a young liberated generation, exploring that point in relationships where sex and love meet.
Fashion designer Shin Ah (Kim Suh Hyung, Green Rose) may not believe in love, but she knows a thing or two about making love. When she meets hospital orderly Dong Ki (Kim Sung Soo, Full House), they immediately fall into a torrid relationship driven by sex, and lots of it. But after the passion comes the questions. Not ready to settle, Shin Ah and Dong Ki are unsure about their feelings for each other and the little things begin to wear at their relationship. Is sex enough to keep two people together?

| movie is fair. seemed promising at beginning with initial spark between the 2 main characters. however after the numerous sex scenes(best part of the movie) you end of not caring what happens to either one of them |

Good For Certain Reasons

The Sweet Sex and Love was a well made movie in a sense that it has good cinematography. Though there are some good moments inbetween the endless sex scenes, the movie does lack a good story. I would reconmend this movie to people who dislike the bad acting, dialogue, and picture quality of pornographic films. It's a good tease. Plus, the lead actress is very very sexy. |

The Sweet Sex and Beautiful Movie

Tend to compare this with La Belle. Both are sexually explicit movies (artistic?). While La Belle focus more on cinematography and hence lacks the depth (not to mention mediocre actings), TSSL has more depth. The home-movie style on some parts of the movie brings out the nostalgic mood. Kim Suh Hyung acting is excellent. I would have give it a half star more if Kim Sung Soo acts better. This is one movie that I won't get tired of watching. A good buy. I hope Korean directors are kind enough to put English text commentaries in future. I would love to listen to the commentary but Korean? There are many good Korean movies with commentaries but it is a great pity that they are all in Korean. |
