Sangam DMC (Digital Media City) will be home to world-class educational research institutes in media and entertainment.
On January 25, the Seoul City Government announced that the remaining 7527㎡ of land at Sangam DMC will be used for education and research, to achieve the goal of making it a global industry, academy and research cluster.
Modeled after such renowned IT clusters as Silicon Valley and Sweden's Kista, Sangam DMC plans to attract higher education institutes or research institutes offering outstanding graduate programs in media, entertainment and IT.
The government intends to bring in educational research institutes to supply induced companies with novel technology, human resources and employee training programs. This will follow the example set by Kista's IT University, which was jointly established by Stockholm University and Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology.
Educational research institutes or companies established to induce educational research institutes are eligible to apply.
The briefing session will be held at 10 AM on February 17 at the DMC Promotional Hall in the Sangam land development district. The deadline for the submission of business plans is July 7. Those on the priority list will be notified of the results of their evaluation by the end of July.
The DMC is home to NuriTkum Square of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, the Culture Contents Center of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and research centers that support R&D conducted by DMC R&D center. Other occupants include advanced information media companies such as KBS Media, LG CNS, LG Telecom, TRUMPF Korea and CJ. Press and entertainment companies will be moving in as well. Park Jung-kwon, in charge of investment promotion, said, "Sangam DMC will emerge as an advanced industry cluster for digital technology, media and research. As the mecca of the next-generation digital media industry and a self-sufficient future city, it will play a pivotal role in developing Korea's industries into a new growth engine".
