Comedian Kang Ho-dong has announced his retirement from the entertainment industry.

After being accused of tax evasion, Kang had been ordered to pay a large sum to make up for the taxes that he hadn't paid.

In the early 1990s, Kang Ho-dong became the top star at ssirum, or Korean wrestling, earning the nickname "Prince Ho-dong".

In 1993, Kang Ho-dong entered the entertainment industry as a comedian, with backing from fellow comedian Lee Gyeong-gyu. He was enthusiastically received by fans.

He rose rapidly to stardom through programs including "Match Made in Heaven", "Beautiful Sunday", "Good Sunday - X-Man", and "Happy Sunday - 2 Days, 1 Night!" to become one of Korea's most sought-after variety show host.

Kang Ho-dong's side career as an entrepreneur in the food service industry also met with great success

but as public opinion turned against him, he ultimately chose retirement.

An accusation of tax evasion proved fatal to Kang Ho-dong's seemingly invincible star power. He ended up retiring from the entertainment industry,

but all of his fans remain intensely interested in his daily life.

The female duo Davichi has returned to fans with a new single after 15 months.
