"Old Boy", a film about an ordinary man who gets kidnapped and placed in a cell for no reason will be screening in the competition section of the 57th Cannes Film Festival, the second local film to be invited this year.

"Old Boy", directed by Park Chan-wook and based on a Japanese comic book of the same name, was first expected to screen as a non-competition film. Cineclick Asia, the film's international distributor, reported that it has been officially invited to compete on Wednesday.

The film will be joining Hong Sang-soo's "Yoja-nun Namja-ui Miraeda (Woman Is the Future of Man)", which already confirmed its participation in the event earlier this week.

This will mark the first time two Korean films were invited to Cannes the same year. Im Kwon-taek, who has competed in the event twice before, co-received the festival's director's prize in 2002.

The event will be held from May 12 to 23.
