'3-Iron' makes a cruise in the U.S.

As Korean cinema '3-Iron' (Bin Jip or Empty House) directed by Kim Ki-duk increases its screening theater number to 31 theaters in the U.S., the movie is making a cruise.

'3-Iron', which released in 7 screens on April 29, has exceeded 100 million won by May 22 with $125,694 (approx. 127 million won) in terms of the total income.

Over the same period, 'Old Boy' earned the total income of $595,729 (approx. 600 million won) via its screening in 18 theaters.

Shunning the brutal, over-the-top violence of much of his earlier work, "3-Iron" (the Korean title is "Binjip", or "Empty House") tells the story of serial housebreaker Tae-suk, a mute, motorbike-riding loner who finds houses to live in while the inhabitants are away.

Instead of stealing, Tae-suk hand-washes his clothes, indulges in hot baths, and sleeps peacefully through the night, taking wry photos of himself before departing.

When he inadvertently stumbles on Sun-hwa, a young woman being battered by her affluent husband, Tae-suk returns to rescue her and mete out justice with the man's 3-Iron and a round of well-placed golf balls....
