'Blood Rain' Tops Local Box office

The Choson Kingdom thriller "Blood Rain" grabbed the top spot at the local box office over the weekend beating out the Hollywood blockbuster "Kingdom of Heaven".

According to the Korean Film Council, "Blood Rain" attracted 533,651 viewers and "Kingdom of Heaven" drew in 422,202 from May 6 to 8. Both films opened nationwide on May 4.

"Blood Rain", set in the Choson Kingdom, is a story about the investigation of a serial murder case on a remote island. "Kingdom of Heaven" is about a young blacksmith (played by Orlando Bloom) who struggles to protect the people of Jerusalem from overwhelming forces.

Local melodrama "Innocent Steps", which was at first place in the previous week, fell to third. "XXX 2" and "Millions" came in fourth and fifth, respectively.
