'Brotherhood' Showcases in Tokyo to Loud Applause

Japanese audiences stood up and gave a big round of applause for the Korean movie "Brotherhood". Before the first public screening, which is scheduled for June 25 in Japan, a premiere showcase was held at Sukarajwa Movie Theater in Tokyo on Tuesday.
About 350 people filled the theater and throughout the movie they broke in tears and applauded after the movie ended. Movie distributors at the premiere said that originally 300 theaters were to show "Brotherhood" in Japan, but after observing the audience's reaction, they said that number could extend to 500.

This is the first time a Korean movie has premiered at the Sukarajwa Theater, as only big hit Japanese movies such as "Bayside Shakedown" have showcased at this famous theater. During a press conference afterwards, hundreds of reporters gathered to interview Director Kang Je-gyu and Jang Dong-gun.
There are a number of reasons why "Brotherhood" is drawing so much attention from the cinema world. Firstly, it treats a historical topic like the Korean War from a humanistic perspective. Moreover, impassioned performances by Jang and the cast and the filming of spectacular battle scenes, second only to those in "Saving Private Ryan", in difficult conditions (the filmmakers were given no help by the Ministry of Defense) have captured the hearts of movie people worldwide.
