'Burning' Wins Another Gong from French Critics

2019/01/14 Source

Director Lee Chang-dong's film "Burning" won an award from the French Union of Film Critics last week, adding to its growing list of honors overseas.

The Korean film won the Best Foreign Language Film award, triumphing over a strong field that included such praised films as "Shoplifters", which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes last year, "First Man", "The Guilty", "Isle of Dogs" and "Phantom Thread".

"Burning" was named the best foreign-language film by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Toronto Film Critics Association. It also became the first Korean film to be shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination. The finalists will be announced on Jan. 22, ahead of this year's Oscars on Feb. 24.

Starring Yoo Ah-in, Steven Yeun and Jeon Jong-seo, the film depicts insecurity, uncertainty and pent-up anger among youth.
