A high school director's animation 'Musical, the Ballad of Seo Dong' advanced to the final youth competition section of the 11th Seoul International Youth Film Festival.

'Musical, the Ballad of Seo Dong' was co-produced by Kim Ga-young, Lee Seung-mi, and Yu Soo-min, and Lim Mi-ran. Majoring in animation, all of them are 3rd graders of Sungnam High School, Yeongi, Chungnam. The work is a contemporary version of 'Seo Dong Tale', one of Baekje stories, with their sense of new generation added.
It starts with a love story of a young man named Seo Dong who enjoys skating alone on the frozen Geum River and the princess of Shila, Sun-hwa. Their love is poignant due to class differences. He is a commoner and she is a princess.
Under the theme, 'Nurturing Creative Human Resources through Animation Baekje Tale', Sungnam High School has been finally selected with Yeosu Information Science High School. The theme was part of 'Specialization of High School Project' supported by the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) last year. Accordingly, students and Korean, Korean history, and Film teachers of Sungnam High School by group completed the work after conducting research on background of the tale and writing a scenario.
The opening ceremony of 'The 11th Seoul International Youth Film Festival', largest festival in Asia in its kind, is held in the Sejong Center, on 9th. For a week, a total of 124 films from 33 countries will be screened at Seoul Cinema, and Cinus Dansungsa. Above all, for the festival, 914 films from 56 countries have been submitted, the largest number in the history of the festival. Among them, 10 works will compete at the festival.
