'Parasite' Reaches 5-Million Viewer Milestone in 8 Days

Director Bong Joon-ho's latest film "Parasite" has attracted over 5 million moviegoers in about a week since its release last week.

The film reached the milestone on Thursday, eight days after its opening on May 30, according to the Korean Film Council.

Great hype has continued to build for the film, which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival last month and received praise from critics and viewers alike.

As it is expected to continue to reign at the box office, viewer numbers will quickly achieve one new milestone after another.

"Parasite", which was sold to 192 countries, began its overseas release at the home of the prestigious Cannes festival on Wednesday and has been showered with praise.

"Parasite" revolves around two families whose lives become intertwined when the son from a poor family scams his way into a tutoring job with a wealthy family.


"Parasite" is directed by Bong Joon-ho, and features Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Wooshik, Park So-dam, Lee Jung-eun. Release date in Korea: 2019/05/30.
