'President's Last Bang' Wins Best Picture at Philippine Festival

SEOUL (Yonhap) _ "The President's Last Bang", a South Korean film, was named best picture at the CineManila International Film Festival in the Philippines, its producers in Seoul said Monday.

The film, directed by Im Sang-soo, won the Lino Brocka Award, the best picture prize, while Kim Dong-ho, director of the Pusan International Film Festival, was selected as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, they said.

"The President's Last Bang" details the night in 1979 when then President Park Chung-hee was assassinated by his national spy agency chief during a private drinking party in Seoul.

The Manila festival, which opened on Oct. 12 and is scheduled to end Tuesday, also featured such Korean films as "Taegukgi: Brotherhood of War", "Untold Scandal" and " JSA - Joint Security Area" under the title of "Korean Focus".

The annual festival, the seventh of its kind, is the biggest film festival in the Philippines.

The Moroccan film "In Casablanca Angels Don't Fly", directed by Mohammed Asli, won the Grand Jury Prize.
