As movie 'Sympathy For Lady Vengeance' which is the talk of the town, has been invited to the 62th Venice International Film Festival, scheduled to be opened on August 31, director Park Chan-wook became first Korean film director to step on red carpet of competition section at all the world's Big Three film festivals.

The Executive Committee of the 62th Venice International Film Festival said that the Committee has selected Korea's 'Sympathy For Lady Vengeance' as an advance film of official competition section in the 62th Venice International Film Festival to be opened on August 31.

Director Park's movie 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' is the final film in Park's thematically linked trilogy of revenge flicks that started with Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and continued with the massively acclaimed Oldboy.

In the meanwhile, Korean movie 'Sympathy For Lady Vengeance' has been made a subject of discussion as an invitation 0 order of the competition section in the 62th Venice International Film Festival.

The Executive Committee assessed that 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' has different structure from previous director Park's films and contains a strong message, saying that this movie is a movie of high caliber.

Following his invitation in the official competition section of the Berlin International Film Festival with 'Joint Security Area JSA' in 2001, director Park has won the Judge Grand Prix of the Cannes Film Festival with 'Oldboy' last year.

Korean actress Lee Young-ae also has come to tread on red carpet of the world-renowned three big film festival as she accompanies with director Park following Berlin.

'Sympathy For Lady Vengeance' has posted its export result over $5 million to date as the film is sold in advance to 20 countries in the world including the U.S., Japan, France and Italy.

"Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" is the ninth Korean film in six years to run in the official competition in Venice, following Lies by Jang Sun-woo in 1999, "The Isle" by Kim Ki-duk in 2000, "Address Unknown" by Kim Ki-duk and "Flower Island" by Song Il-gon in 2001, "Oasis" by Lee Chang-dong in 2002, "A Good Lawyer's Wife" by Im Sang-soo in 2003, and "Low Life" by Im Kwon-taek and "3-Iron" by Kim Ki-duk in 2004.

The 62. International Venice Film Festival, organised by La Biennale di Venezia, will be held on the Venice Lido from 31st August to 10th September 2005. The Festival is officially recognised by the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Associations).
