'The 13th Round' clinches the Grand Award at the 2007 Indie-AniFest

Indie-Anifest, Korea's one and only independent animation festival, closed its exciting six-day journey on Sept. 18.

KIAFA, the host of the Indie-AniFest, announced the winning works that dazzled audiences in this year's Indie-AniFest. The Grand Award, 'The Star of Indie', was given to The 13th Round by Lee, Yoon-Seok. Following a slice of life of Cho, Wang-Jin, a boxer who turned to K-1, a combat sport, the animation portrays the problem with change and adaptation.

Due to his habits from boxing, Cho cannot easily adapt to K-1's new rules, which costs him terrible defeats. Cho faces the bittersweet reality as he barely manages to thrive in the new sport.

Especially for its unique and original juxtaposition of traditional drawing animation and 3D animation techniques, the animation was acclaimed by the jury as "an aesthetic achievement emerging from a slice of a man's life".

Also named were Soiyeon (Kim, Jin-Man) for the second award in the adults' division called "Independence", An Unexpected Event (Kim, Ah-Yeong) for the second award in the students' division called "Challenge", A Sense of Space for Those Who Live in a City (Kim, Joon) for the Jury's Special Award called "Passion", Hear What This Ill-Bred Rotter Has to Say (Jeong, Joo-Ah) for the KIAFA Special Award called "Vision". and Millennium Giraffe (Won, Jong-Sik) for the Public's Award called "Star of the Festival". Also, a work by Kim, Seong-Gil received the jury's 'Special Mention'.
