1,000 Staff to Sniff out Doping During Pyeongchang Olympics

The International Olympic Committee and the World Anti-Doping Agency plan to send 1,000 staff to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang to root out drug abuse.

Athletes will be subjected to doping tests from Feb. 1, eight days before the official start, at a score of testing sites. They will be escorted to the sites by chaperones working for WADA and the entire process will be videotaped to ensure transparency. The blood samples will then be sent to the Korea Institute of Science and Technology. Test results will be available within 24 hours.
Athletes who show abrupt changes in their biological statistics or achievements in their respective disciplines are subject to the tests.
The IOC said it will conduct 20,000 doping tests until the start of the Olympics and an additional 5,000 during the event. Some 2900 athletes will compete in Pyeongchang, so each will on average be tested 1.6 times.
