The 12th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) kicks off its 12-day run at seven p.m. Thursday in the southern port city.

About one hundred film stars from home and abroad will attend the opening ceremony. Chinese director Feng Xiaogang's "Assembly" will open the festival one hour later before an audience of five thousand.

Some 270 films from 64 countries will be screened at 34 theaters in the Haeundae Beach and Nampo-dong areas.

Among them, 66 are world premieres and 26 are international premieres, meaning that the films will screen for the first time outside their home countries.

Some 20 events such as the PIFF Master Class will provide opportunities for festival attendees to meet renowned film directors. The handprints of seven celebrities will also be revealed including that of film score composer Ennio Morricone.
