2005/03/13 | 88 views | Permalink | Source

Two award-wining local movies "Old Boy" and "3-Iron" will meet moviegoers at theaters in the United States.

Earning director Park Chan-wook the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival last year, "Old Boy", a story about a man who was kidnapped and detained for 15 years and his revenge, will be released on March 25.

"3-Iron", the recipient of the Silver Lion Special Prize for Best Director, following the best director prize at the Berlin Film Festival earlier in the year, will open on April 29. The movie tells the story of a woman locked in a cycle of domestic violence and a homeless young man who wanders around empty houses.

They are expected to be released in big cities, such as Los Angeles and New York, in their opening week, and expand into other locations depending on their commercial success.

Traditional Dance Performance

Dances that are traditionally practiced in southeastern Korea will be staged on March 15 at the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts. All of the dances are designated Important Intangible Cultural Properties.

In the performance titled "Scent of Park Kyung-rang's Dance", Park will recreate various traditional dance repertories such as "salpuri (a dance to exorcise bad spirits)", "sungmu (monk's dance)" and other dances used in shaman rituals.

Tickets are 8,000 won. For details, call (02) 580-3300 or visit Open the link
