4th Asian Film Academy announces faculty

The Asian Film Academy (AFA), held annually during the Pusan International Film Festival, has selected Taiwanese auteur HOU Hsiao-hsien (City of Sadness, Three Times) to serve as its fourth principal.

This marks the second time that HOU will hold the position, after being selected for the inaugural AFA in 2005. Korean veteran Im Kwon-taek served as principal in 2006, followed by Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf in 2007.

Joining him on the faculty will be Philippine director Brilliante MENDOZA, whose latest film Serbis screened in competition at Cannes; PARK Ki-yong ("Camel(s)"), the head of the Korean Academy of Film Arts; and veteran Hong Kong DoP Arthur WONG (Once Upon a Time in China).

Hosted by Dongseo University, the Korean Academy of Film Arts, and the Pusan International Film Festival, the AFA provides free accommodation and instruction to 24 young filmmakers from across Asia, and guides them in the making of two collaborative short films, which will be screened at the conclusion of PIFF.

This year's AFA runs from September 27 to October 11.
