The ban has been put in place for two beaches in South Chungcheong Province from July 11 and will expand to 19 other beaches from July 25, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said on Wednesday.

It applies to the 21 beaches nationwide that had more than 300,000 visitors last year, including Haeundae Beach in Busan and Gyeongpo Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon Province.

Violators will face a fine of around W3 million (US$1=W1,202).
