"April Snow" is to set boxoffice records in Japan

With its concurrent release in some 400 theaters in Japan on September 17 amidst high expectations, the movie "April Snow", starring Bae Yong-joon, has been setting new records by drawing 150,000 viewers on opening day. The movie took in JPY 38 million in ticket sales for the first 3 days, according to the movie's distributor, UIP. "April Snow" also finds second place at boxoffice behind "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

Until now, Korean movie shooting for 2nd place at boxoffice in the first week has only been " JSA - Joint Security Area (2000)". "Windstruck (2004)" took third place, and "Silmido (2003)", "Taegukgi: Brotherhood Of War (2003)" and "Everybody has Secrets (2004)" parked in fourth at boxoffice as they debuted in Japan.

Internet website, " Open the link " reports that it would not be easy to see over JPY 3 billion, yet surpassing JPY 2 billion is quite optimistic". It means that "April Snow" stands a good chance of breaking the JPY 2 billion total boxoffice sales of the hit Korean movie "Windstruck" which took over JPY 3 billion in boxoffice gross.

The movie's main theater, Hibiya Skaraja, was crowded with visitors on September 19 when it put on display the hand printings of director Heo Jin-ho and actors Bae Yong-joon and Son Ye-jin, drawing the media spotlight. Bae's fans queued in long lines to see their favorite actor star in a brand-new movie. Some of the visitors compared the size of Son's hand with their own, while others posed for cameras as if shaking hands with the actors' hand-printings and took photos of each other.
