Around 150 SSM Will Have Forced Day Off Sunday

Some 150 large retail outlets will be closed for business Sunday in accordance with a new law aimed at protecting mom-and-pop stores around the country.
The change affects some of the larger big box outlets including E-mart, Homeplus and Lotte Mart.
And some 300 branches of large supermarkets run by conglomerates will also be forced to close on Sunday.
In Seoul, this monthly to bi-monthly measure first began on April 22nd in the five district wards of Seongbuk, Gangdong, Songpa, Gangseo and Gwanak.
Tomorrow, in addition to them Sungdong, Mapo, Eunpyong and Seodaemun will be joinging in.
The Agency for Traditional Market Administration says that this regular forced-closure seems to be working.
Last month, smaller stores and conventional markets saw an average of 13.5 percent weekly growth in sales during the period giant stores were forced to close for a day.
