The Pusan International Film Festival keeps getting better. Now they are celebrating the 10th year anniversary, featuring 307 films from 73 countries. A compilation of films that is sure to please. The opening ceremony will begin on October 6th; daily screenings from October 7th-13th; closing ceremony will be held on October 14th.

People, the world over, don't think about Pusan as the second largest city in South Korea, but as the host of the best film festival in Asia if not the world.

The event will focus on Asian cinema featuring 87 Asian premiers. As a matter of fact, Hsiao Hsien's version of "Three Times" will be shown as the opening film, while the closing film will be "Wedding Campaign" by director Hwang Byung-kuk. These two movies attracted world-wide attention.

Don't worry, plenty of seating is available, but you must purchase your tickets on schedule. You can use ADVANCE Online Purchases only on September 15th-16th from 9:30am - 10:00pm for opening and closing films. General screening tickets will be made available from September 23rd to October 14th. 31 venues will display movies that can accommodate up to 300,000 seats.

This should be an opportunity for all people, linked to the movie industry, to network, as well as, attend training seminars and conferences. For example, the "10th Anniversary International Conference" titled, "Asia/Cinema/Network-industry, Technology and Film Texts", will be held from October 11th-13th.

The 1st annual "Asian Film Festival Academy" will provide education opportunities for young filmmakers to attend workshops mentored by acclaimed Asian movie directors.

The movie industry is not just about actors, directors and writers. It's the directors and producers who must finance these projects. They have the chance to collaborate on new projects while screening films to determine if any of them have the potential to become a global box office hit.

To most effectively conduct business, they could attend the "8th Pusan Promotions Plan" to discuss how to make Asian movies marketable to the world. So everybody benefits.

A prestigious panel of judges will decide the winner of "best film". The president is Abbas Kiarostami an Iranian director. His fellow jurors are Christian Jeune the Head of Films Department at the Cannes Film Festival; Eric Khoo a director and producer from Singapore; famed Korean actress Lee Hye-young; Mika Kaurismaki a director and producer from Finland. Other prizes, such as the "Korea Cinema Award", will be judged by different distinguished jurors.

A special award will be given to NHK, the largest broadcaster in Japan, for supporting emerging filmmakers in Asia. Peter Greenway, an avant-gard and controversial director, will be rewarded as a hand printing honoree.

The Pusan International Film Festival wishes to celebrate support from the citizens of Pusan. On October 14th during the closing ceremony at Haeundae Yachting Center Outdoor Theater, the 100 Gayageum, a twelve-stringed quartet will perform.

The PIFF Café will be open to the general audience serving free food and drinks from October 6th to 14th. The young people could dance to the techno-rhythms of well-known DJs' at Haeundae Outdoor Theater.

So many events will be offered that all participants will have memories that last a lifetime. To learn more about the Pusan International Film Festival please log on to http://www.piff.org . Choosing to attend this film festival might be one of the best decisions of your life.
