Many people leave their homes vulnerable during this time as they go away on their summer holidays.

The highest percentage or 66 percent, of break-ins occur between midnight and 6 a.m., with 59 percent of burglars break into stand-alone houses. Some 66 percent look for jewelry and 20 percent for cash.

"Change the password on your door lock and erase your fingerprints to prevent possible exposure before leaving for vacation", an S1 staffer said. "Don't reveal your vacation schedule or where you are now on social media".

S1 also urged vacationers to keep all windows locked even if they are small and the home is on a high floor.
