RM of boy band BTS donated W100 million to the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (US$1=W1,184).

He made the donation on the occasion of his birthday last week in the hope that the money will be used to foster a culture of reading art books and encourage young people to develop their artistic sensibility.

The donation will be used to distribute art books.

"I was pleased and surprised that RM wanted to support art, which gives him inspiration and comfort", said museum director Youn Bum-mo on Monday. "He hopes that young people who can't visit museums can instead easily access art through books, as he himself does".

RM also inspired the other band members to take part in a global art project.

The band held a contemporary art exhibition in five cities around the world early this year, in collaboration with artists who share some of their ideas.
