Busan Film Fest Fever Heats Up

Advance tickets for the 10th Busan International Film Festival sold out in 13 hours Friday.

The event's secretariat said 77 ticket offices nationwide sold 72,000 tickets for the general showing of 20 films. In particular, tickets for the opener "Three Times" by Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien and closing film "Wedding Campaign" by Hwang Byeng-gug were the first to be sold out.

Other coveted tickets were for the closing ceremony and party and the Master Class featuring Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, who is also on the judging panel for the New Currents section, the only competitive category in the film festival.

The festival running from October 6th to the 14th in southern port city Busan will showcase 307 films from 73 countries this year.

The guest list includes world-renowned directors such as Peter Greenaway of Britain, Krzysztof Zanussi of Poland, Garin Nugroho of Indonesia and Seijun Suzuki of Japan as well as Asian stars such as Jackie Chan, Chen Chang, Vivian Shu and Shiang-chyi Chen.
