Chung Jae-sook, the head of the Cultural Heritage Administration, said in a National Assembly audit on Tuesday that the palace will be open till 9:00 p.m. throughout the year.

Chung was responding to a question about the night tours of the palace, which it manages along with those for Gyeongbok Palace.

This year the two palaces are open for night tours for 70 days on five occasions between April and November, with the number of visitors limited to 3,500 a night due to concerns over safety and possible damage to the historic treasures.

The night tours have proven extremely popular, with tickets usually selling out in about 5 to 10 minutes after going on sale online.

This year's final night tours will last from Oct. 21 to Nov. 3, and most tickets have already sold out, except for those to be sold at door.

Currently, Deoksu Palace is the only other royal palace in Seoul that stays open at night throughout the year.
