Chinese actress Li Bingbing has been appointed South Korea's cultural ambassador in China.

"As cultural ambassador, Li Bingbing will foster cultural exchanges between Korea and China. She will participate in future projects to promote Korean culture in China", the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism was quoted by Yonhap News as saying Tuesday.

Li, 32, is one of the most well-known Chinese actresses, most recently appearing in the action blockbuster "The Forbidden Kingdom" with Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

She was also one of the torchbearers of the Olympic Torch relay in Shanghai in May.

Li has appeared in numerous Chinese films and TV series. She made her film debut in Zhang Yuan's "Seventeen Years" in 1999.

Her breakout role was in the 2005 romantic comedy "Waiting Alone", for which she received a Best Actress nomination at the Chinese Academy Awards. Li's other films include "Dragon Squad", "The Knot" and "Wait 'til You're Older".
