The three, who played Moon Gang-tae (Kim Soo-hyun), who lost his life while taking care of his autistic brother, Go Moon-yeong (Seo Yea-ji), a fairy tale writer who dresses up like an armor and lives with an anti-social personality to hide her wounds and Moon Sang-tae (Oh Jung-se), who has amazing memorization and drawing skills, showed viewers how these slightly strange people find themselves and grow into real adults.

Kim Soo-hyun made a successful comeback by choosing "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" as his first drama since his discharge from the military. Regarding Kim Soo-hyun's casting, producer Park Shin-woo said, "His acting spectrum is surprisingly wide and there are countless details in between. I don't think there was a better choice than Kim Soo-hyun as an actor who could interpret the role that should shine without being as bright as Gang-tae, and persuade viewers", he said. "I talked about Kim Soo-hyun and Gang-tae for a long time on the day I first met Kim Soo-hyun. At that time, I thought, 'Oh, he is already Gang-tae'."

As for Seo Yea-ji, who played Ko Moon-yeong, he said, "I was able to feel that Seo Yea-ji understood Ko Moon-yeong's mind rather than her behavior while talking to her. She is a character whose behavior is more noticeable than her heart, but when I saw Seo Yea-ji staring at her heart, I believed she could do well. I hoped that Moon-yeong's eccentricity appears rather attractive, Gang-tae's mediocrity rather special and that the inconveniences of Sang-tae rather lovely", adding, "The three actors did more than I expected. All three of them have a sense of responsibility for their characters and passion and sincerity for their implementation. I think the energy and sincerity of those actors shined tremendously in the drama", he said.
