Domestic short animations come to moviegoers

The number of short animations made in Korea every year is 300. Works with creative stories and experimental and differentiated techniques are poured out. In contrast, invitation of film festival is the only occasion for those works to debut.
Against this backdrop, the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA, President & CEO: Lee Jae-woong) and the Korea Film Archive (KOFA, Director: Cho Sun-hee) announced to host 'Korea Ani Marathon', a festival to screen Korean animations regularly.
'Korea Ani Marathon' is designed to provide a platform to screen domestically produced animations more frequently, thereby improving access to short animations and promoting the domestic animation industry.

Works selected by themes every month are screened once a week at Cinematheque KOFA, Seoul Ani Cinema, and Art House MOMO. No admission fee. Every month, voting is conducted with movie audiences as a subject to select and award the best one among movies already screened.
The theme of July is 'Animation Selected by Korea' which is the first subject for the festival. And works supported by KOCCA, an organization which promotes animation, SBA Seoul Animation Center, and the Gyeonggi Digital Contents Agency have been selected under the theme.
Also being screened will be 'Dust Kid' by director Jung Yu-mi, which was officially invited to '2009 Cannes Film Festival' and 'Wayhome' by director O Soo-hyung which won the Special Prize at the '2009 Shin Dong-hun Animation Awards' and the Grand Prize at the '2009 SBS Animation Awards', and 'The Things She Can't Avoid in the City' by director Park Jee-youn which won the Best Prize at the '2009 SBS Animation Awards'.
"Thanks to their experiential aspects and diversity, short animations are fundamentals for animation as a whole. However, they suffer disadvantages in the media industry because they have limits in terms of commercialization", said Lee Jae-woong, president of KOCCA. "I hope this event to be served as a platform to present more films to more audiences", he added.
'Korea Ani Marathon' is hosted by the Korea Creative Content Agency and the Korea Film Archive. It is sponsored by SBA Seoul Animation Center, the Gyeonggi Digital Contents Agency, the Korea Independent Animation Filmmakers Association, Art House MOMO, and Champ TV.
