East Asia Film Festival to be Held in Changwon

The city of Changwon will hold a film screening event and a symposium as part of the East Asian Week designated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Twelve films from 12 countries will be shown free of charge at the event. The films were selected for the 2006 East Asia Film Festival, which will be held concurrently in Seoul and Changwon. The 12 countries that have presented their films include Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Laos.

Applications for tickets to the festival can be submitted on the festival's Web site ( http://www.eaff.or.kr ). The festival is being organized by Chaplin Entertainment, and the films will be screened at the Megaline theater in Changwon.

The films include "Hinokio" (Japan), "Somnambular Woman" (Vietnam), "Heart" (Indonesia) and "Beyond the Horizon" (Myanmar). Four films will be screened daily with Korean and English subtitles.

The purpose of the festival is to introduce best films of each Asian country, bolster cultural understanding and strengthen cultural and artistic ties among Asian nations.

A symposium will be held September 15 at the International Seminar Room of Kyungnam University regarding the outlook of the East Asian film industry. Congratulatory and keynote speeches will be delivered by Kyungnam University President Park jae-kyu and the head of the Northeast Asian Era Committee, Lee Soo-hoon.
