2017/01/22 | Permalink | Source

A growing number of teenage girls do workouts regularly, a survey suggests.

According to the survey of over 9,000 people nationwide conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 54.9 percent of girls exercised more than once a week last year, up 19.7 percentage points from a year earlier. The figure for all teens rose 14.1 percentage points to 63.1 percent.

Overall, 59.9 percent of respondents said they exercise more than once a week, up from 54.8 percent in 2014. Among those aged 70 or above the figure was 55.3 percent.

The most popular form of exercise was walking, followed by hiking and lifting weights.

Of the 15.9 percent of respondents who said they rarely exercise, most said they don't have enough time to work out. Lack of interest and poor access to fitness facilities were also cited.
