Girls' Generation Achieves Breaks Record

A new song by star girl group Girls' Generation entitled "Hoot" ranked atop both the Korean and Japanese music charts.

Girls' Generation has written new history in the Japanese pop music industry.

The second single album of Girls' Generation, "Gee", which had been released on October 20 in Japan, had already sold as many as 66,000 copies during the first week after release, and ranked in second place on the Oricon single chart. They had actually recorded the best result ever among Asian girl groups in Japan except Japanese girl groups. Girls' Generation ranked in the top three on the weekly chart, and their achievement among foreign girl groups is second only to the English female group "The Nolans", who reached second place in 1980 with their song entitled "Dancing Sister". In addition, the record broke the previous best record, which had also been held by Girls' Generation. They had placed in fourth place on the Oricon weekly chart with their debut album in Japan entitled "GENIE", which had been the best result among female singers from foreign countries.

Their debut album "GENIE" had ranked atop the various music charts including the Japanese "iTunes music video chart", Japanese music website "Musico", Japanese mobile website Recochoku's "Chaku ringtone chart" and "Chaku movie chart" (ringtone and video images), and "Video clip chart". They had conquered the charts for albums, music source, mobile, and music videos. Girls' Generation has successfully advanced to Japan and, at the same time, their new song "Hoot", which was released in Korea on October 25, also ranked in first place on the Korean music chart. The title song of their new mini album entitled "Hoot" that will be released on October 27 had been released online to the public before the official release and ranked atop the daily music charts on various music websites in Korea such as Melon, Bugs, Dosirak, and Monky 3. Their agency SM Entertainment said on October 26, "Girls' Generation has become Asia's No. 1 group by ranking atop both the Korean and Japanese music charts".
