Growing Number of Seniors Opting to Travel Overseas

People in their 60s have emerged as a key customer group for the tourism industry, with increasing numbers of seniors traveling abroad.

According to Korea's No. 2 travel agency Mode Tour, customers in their 60s and older accounted for 18.5 percent of its outbound travelers last year. That's a nearly 4 percentage point rise from 14.8 percent in 2014.

Seniors prefer countries in Asia due to a shorter flying time.

Southeast Asian countries are the most popular destination with 40 percent, followed by Japan (24 percent) and China (19 percent).
