[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Secret Mother" Episodes 23-24

2018/06/24 | Permalink

I have rarely been so delightfully frustrated while watching a drama, as "Secret Mother" is hitting a lot of sweet spots with its relentlessly obscure truth. The things I thought I knew are looking much worse, but it only takes one ominous phone call to throw all those theories right back into the humble pile of speculation. Yoon-jin and Eun-yeong have a complicated truth to untangle, and it now includes yet another victim...More

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Secret Mother" Episodes 21-22

"Secret Mother" is finally back after a long absence, and the drama carries on taking its heroines' lives from bad to worse, but hopefully towards resolution. The contents of the warehouse are revealed, lies are crawling left and right, and there are now very few doubts left as to who has done what. Unfortunately for Yoon-jin, Eun-yeong, and everyone touched by the evil that is lurking, it looks like we have plenty of suffering left to go...More

So Hyeon-joo is forcing Sang-pil not to tell Jae-i about the full situation. While Hyeon-joo's motherly concern is understandable, the woman could really use a comparable sense of self-preservation. For that matter, Sang-pil also should have shown more interest in Hyeon-joo's welfare for Jae-i's sake. Even if Hyeon-joo was going to continue to go undercover, imagine the drama that could have been avoided if Sang-pil had insisted on giving her a GPS device...More

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Lawless Lawyer" Episode 11

So Oh-joo's motivation for helping out Sang-pil is both a lot more complicated and a lot more simplistic than I was expecting. Like Moon-sook, Oh-joo is dismissing Sang-pil's potential as a threat. Which makes sense considering how easy it was to frame Sang-pil for murder. Why bother worrying about Sang-pil at all when Oh-joo has his own domestic problems to worry about? Not to mention, political problems in that people still tend to think of Oh-joo as being a thug?...More
