"Furious 7" stays ahead of the pack…

"Furious 7" remained the South's favourite flick over the weekend by capturing 41% of the box office pie. James Wan's action outing attracted an additional 472K admissions over 813 screens to move its total tally now to 2.8M ($21.7M). Globally, the film has amassed over $1.1B, making it the seventh highest-grossing film of all time, just ahead of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" and behind "Iron Man 3".

Second and third place fell to local delights: Kang Je-gyu's "Salut D'Amour" and Lee Byeong-heon-I's "Twenty". "Salut D'Amour" (a family drama starring Park Geyn-hyeong, Yoon Teo-jeong, Cho Jin-woong and Han Ji-min) added 257K admissions (21%) across 619 screens to move its bottom line to $5.5M; while "Twenty", which was also recently released across America, claimed 147K (125) to advance to its ticket tally now to 2.9M.

Pierre Morel's "The Gunman" was one of only two new entries to crack a top ten finish. The action thriller, which is based on the novel "The Prone Gunman" by Jean-Patrick Manchette, entered the fray in fourth with 63K admissions going its way (5%). "The Gunman" has received rather poor reviews from critics, and so we'll have to wait until next week to see if Korean filmgoers keep up their support for Morel's adaptation.

In fifth fell the most popular foreign film of the year, Matthew Vaughn's "Kingsman: The Secret Service" starring Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson and Mark Strong. "Kingsman" hit Korean shores back in February, and during its impressive run amassed $46.5M. Over the weekend the film added 51K stubs to bring its total haul in Korea now to 6M admissions.

The American supernatural horror "Ouija", by Stiles White, was the only other new entry to crack entry into the top ten. "Ouija" was released in the US late last year (just in time for Halloween) but finally arrived in Korea and attracted 48K filmgoers (3.7%) during its first weekend out. With less than half the attention fell the Oscar-winning "Whiplash" by Damien Chazelle. "Whiplash" has been campaigning in Korea since the 12th March and has managed to feature in the middle order ever since. Chazelle's popular piece added 22.7K (2%), bumping its total earnings up to $11.5M (1.5M admissions).

The Chinese animation "Yugo & Lala 2" occupied eighth place with 19K (1.4%) to narrowly outplay Im Kwon-taek's latest drama, "Revivre". "Revivre", which stars Ahn Sung-ki and Kim Gyu-ri, was released on the 9th and its second weekend out attracted 19K filmgoers (1.5%). So far, Im Kwon-taek's drama has attracted just over 122K filmgoers and banked $860K. Lastly, the weekend's top performers was closed by Kenneth Branagh's "Cinderella" as it scraped together 9.7K admissions (0.8%).
