"How Much Has It Increased for the Last 20 Years?"

Recently, the 20th edition of Busan International Film Festival took place, Korea's premiere film festival, and, according to this report by BIFF, it was most successful one to date. Around 227,000 people attend this year's event, surpassing the 226,000 achieved last year: "The BIFF has matured splendidly for the last 20 years and is anticipating another great 20 years and beyond". This is great news for both the festival itself, and Korea's film industry at large.

Resident Evil fans rejoice! Actor Lee Joon-gi ("The King and the Clown") has scored his first big Hollywood role in the next in the "Resident Evil". Based on the popular video game series by Capcom, "Resident Evil" is a massively successful video game franchise that has inspired a series of survival horror films in its name. "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is set for release early 2017 and will be directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. Stay tuned.

"Ryoo Seung-wan [INTERVIEW]"

Hangul Celluloid, easternKicks and Mike Fury recently sat down with director Ryoo Seung-wan in London for a Q&A after a screening of his most recent success, "Veteran". The film was released in Korea back in August and has since become the third highest grossing Korean film of all time. The film enjoyed 13.4 million admissions and is only behind "Ode to My Father" (14.2) and "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" (17.6) in the list of South Korea's most popular films. "The success of "Veteran" is of course partly due to that but I think it's more to do with the fact that I touched on something that audiences want to see happen but cannot do in reality", said Ryoo.
