[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Triangle - Drama" Episode 15

Well, huh, apparently the incompetent out-of-nowhere assassination attempt really was as stupid an idea as it looked. I had expected the drama to just gloss over the details of the assassination so we could pine over Dong-soo for awhile. And for a fair amount of time that's exactly what "Triangle - Drama" does. We get a full flashback of all the big story events between Dong-soo and Yeong-dal and oh, it's all so terribly terribly sad.

Then the police start investigating and sure enough, they almost immediately find out exactly who the assassin is, what with the criminal act being committed in a crowded street where multiple people witnessed it. Dong-soo doesn't even die, for that matter. Getting stabbed in the gut is pretty bad, granted, but there's a reason assassins usually go for the throat. Paramedics can't do much about a person who can't breathe. Stopping the bleeding from the torso, by contrast, is a much more managable task.

Even Bok-tae evidently didn't think much of the assassin's value, given the man's ultimate value. Comically, Bok-tae is still fingered almost immediately as being involved somehow. Regardless of whether or not anyone's going to find any direct proof, in the near term Bok-tae accomplished very little except being the recipient of a savage beating. So overall, this episode is a real-life lesson as to why cheap assassination ploys aren't really the best method of accomplishing anything.

Beyond that, the drama's still a little weak. The whole love triangle thing is still being heavily played up and shown as being tragic, which once again feels awfully inappropriate given how little development we've actually had for these feelings. Jeong-hee used to be pretty seriously motivated by the prospect of making a good living and doing well by her family. I guess that's not so important anymore?

Well, in all fairness, this probably is a good time to step out of the way, since we've finally gotten to the second phase of the plan and Jeong-hee is at risk of being used as a hostage. Oddly enough this part of the plan doesn't actually seem to require Dong-soo's involvement at all. Is that why he was the victim of an assassination attempt? To get him out of the way for a storyline that doesn't really need him to be around? Or did Lee Beom-soo just want to take a break? I suppose we'll find out soon enough.
