HanCinema's Korean Box Office Review

(2011.11.11 ~ 2011.11.13)

This past weekend has seen "Punch" not only stay true on top with 462,670 admissions but also move up a slot of Korea's top films of the year. Lee Han's latest captured 32.2% of moviegoers' interest to position it number six of Korea's top performers.

"Immortals" is the newest film to import Greek mythology to the silver screen and with that you can expect great visuals, epic battles, and a grand sense of scale. "Immortals" enters the rat race with 391,317 admissions in its first weekend in Korea. Following is "Reel Steel" which finally bows out of the top two films having lingered there for a month. "Reel Steel" has 12.2% of this week's market and has accumulated 2,850,840 admissions thus far. "You Pet" is a new melodrama/romance film from Korean director Kim Byeong-gon. The film is based on a Japanese comic and has also been made into a drama in its home country.

Comedies seem to be the name of the game in Korea at the moment with Kim Jeong-hwan-III's "Penny Pinchers" also impressing in its opening weekend with 111,793 admissions. Justin Timberlake's pretty face and allure is keeping his latest film "In Time" alive at six, down two spots from the weekend before. "Couples", by Jeong Yong-ki, dropped significantly from three to seven; earning just 28,850 admissions this weekend.

The fatal love story "Always" by Song Il-gon now has just under a million admissions and Tate Taylor's "The Help" follows with a disappointing 14,569 tickets sold. Latest, but not least, is Lee Jeong-hyang's "A Reason to Live". With just 29 screens around the country the film has managed a place in the top ten with 7,266 admissions.
