[HanCinema's News] "Blueming" Confirmed for Release in Japan

March 31st will see the release of the Boys Love web-drama "Blueming" on Naver TV. Despite the seemingly minor nature of the release, "Blueming" is already receiving international distribution thanks to iQiyi and NBC Universal Entertainment Japan. Recently, NBC Entertainment Japan confirmed that "Blueming" would be available all over the country sometime in June.

"Blueming" is based on the webtoon titled Who Can Define Popularity? and comes from the same director as other such Boys Love projects as "Where Your Eyes Linger" and "To My Star" which have also met with approval from worldwide Boys Love fans. Director Hwang Da-seul has carved out a strong niche for herself in terms of producing these projects with the help of Next Entertainment World (NEW).

That NEW is involved with a genre like Boys Love is somewhat surprising, as they are a mainstream studio behind such hits as "Train to Busan" and "Peninsula" among others. However, Boys Love dramas tends to do well in international markets, particularly with fans of the original works on which they're based. Adaptations of "Sing My Crush" and "Bon Appetit" are also in the works, as is "Love Tractor" and all are expected to come out sometime this year.
