Fans were in shock when Goo Ha-ra posted the cryptic message 'Goodbye' on her SNS at 12:40 in the morning on May 26th. Goo Ha-ra's manager immediately tried to get in touch with her, failed, then hurried to her home where she found Goo Ha-ra unconscious on the floor amidst the remnants of smoke. Goo Ha-ra was quickly moved to the hospital. Her manager described Goo Ha-ra as having shown recent symptoms of depression.

Replies to Goo Ha-ra's SNS message were mostly supportive. One somewhat negative message about Goo Ha-ra's insides being a mess was quickly deleted. Others expressed sympathy for her well-being, incredulity at her actions, and thankfulness to her manager for rescuing her.
Goo Ha-ra's mental issues likely stem from an incident last August where her boyfriend allegedly attacked her and later threatened her with the public release of video tapes showing the two engaged in sexual intercourse. The ex-boyfriend was charged for these crimes back in January. He has since acknowledged some of them, but has insisted the sex tapes were not created for blackmail purposes.
Goo Ha-ra was set to testify at his next trial on May 30th. It seems likely that the stress of this upcoming event was what forced her into a mental breakdown.
