[HanCinema's News] Jang Hye-jin Talks About the Latest Swings in her Career

On February 2nd actress Jang Hye-jin appeared on the afternoon variety show Radio Star to talk about her career. The forty-five year old graduate from the Korea National University of Arts perhaps most famously appeared as the shot put champion mother of the central family in "Parasite" from 2019. But she has had a long career in film and drama alike, starting her career with "Secret Sunshine" and eventually landing a critical role in "The World of Us" from 2015.

According to Jang Hye-jin, originally she just had a normal career before being approached by director Lee Chang-dong for "Secret Sunshine" in 2006. It was from this connection that Jang Hye-jin was eventually cast in "Parasite" in 2018, a role that required her to put on nearly twenty kilograms of weight. Losing the weight afterward has made her more difficult to recognize in subsequent projects, though her reputation is well-known to casting directors.

Jang Hye-jin has been much more active in her acting career since then, despite having initially given it up after university. Jang Hye-jin claims to have a good relationship with her co-stars, noting how in "The Red Sleeve" leading actor Lee Junho would cheerfully suggest they go places together. Jang Hye-jin will appear in a major role in "Green Mothers' Club" later this year.
